Fireworks

Folkrocker

Spent the day running ‘round
Bought some fireworks at a roadside place
Some Roman Candles and a Cherry Bomb
I bought a Silver Palm and some Jumbo Snakes

Is there something I forgot to do
That I ought to do in this life?
Each July brings me another round
Of fireworks in the sky
A flash of color then they die

It’s enough right now
My boy is clinging to me
He’s afraid, loud noise, bright light
It’s enough, it’s enough
Get used to it, the show’s not over yet

On the rooftop and we’re looking out
At the fireworks above the lake
First a blossom, then a booming sound
And then they shower down
And light up your face

It’s enough right now
My boy is clinging to me
He’s afraid, loud noise, bright light
It’s enough, it’s enough
Get used to it, the show’s not over yet

And all the hours
Looking at magazines under the bed
You’d think they’d be naked girls but
They were guitars instead

Lights out little folkrocker
It’s a school night little fame stalker
Sleep tight little love talker
Keep your eyes on the prize

And all the hours
Crankin’ your Silvertone out in the shed
Turn your amp up and close your eyes
And you’ll be headlining inside your head

Turn it down little folkrocker
Neighbors don’t get just how great you are
Take out the trash or you can’t use the car
Keep your eyes on the prize

So you loaded a rowboat
With the remains of six thousand days
Elaborate plans and love songs
I’m gonna throw them into Elliot Bay

Heave ho little folkrocker
Watch it go little fame stalker
Sinking low into salt water
Keep your eyes on the prize
Sinking right out of sight
Lots of boats out tonight
Such a beautiful lie

Anna Blue

Anna Blue can stay
Sleeping through the day
Wakes the lake is still
Climbs the pine tree hill
Crane cries, moonrise

Anna second sight
Seeing through the night
Maps inside her head
Charts the dark instead
Stars slide from the sky, sunrise

All is well
Anna can tell

Anna Blue can wait
Walks the shore ‘til late
Stones are vanished suns
Counting out each one
Wait, not just yet, sunset

All is well
Anna can tell
All is right
Day turns to night

Ordinary Sacred Days

Let’s make a trade
Our wasted days
Aren’t you sick of being afraid?

A little faith
I’ll keep it safe
Aren’t you sick of being afraid?

There is no shame
Let’s feed the flame
Aren’t you sick of being afraid?

Let’s take this time
Blend yours with mine
Our ordinary sacred days

From the moment I wake up
To every second of the day
I know the hour is late but
I’ve got one last thing to say
This I pray

Let’s light a fire
Let loose the choir
Aren’t you sick of being afraid?

Let’s burn it down now
Let’s claim this ground now
Our ordinary sacred days
